Since then it has established itself as the dominant power major with presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business. From fossil fuels it has forayed into generating electricity via hydro, nuclear and renewable energy sources. Electricity rates charged by NTPC are based on the cost of generating and distributing power, plus the cost of operating and maintaining the electrical system, and the cost of meeting other customer requirements. As a regulated utility, NTPC can only charge customers rates that have been approved by the Public Utilities Board (PUB).
